Affini: “I’m very satisfied with my performance and I have no regrets.”

After narrowly finishing in second place at the Italian TT National Championships, Edo Affini had the European Championships as an important target of his season. Only 9 seconds separated Edo from the podium yesterday in Denmark, but our Italian rider sees in it than just a result:

"Together with Vasi we planned how to do the TT, but immediately after the start I felt really good and I saw in my Pioneer that I could push more watts. So I decided to go a bit faster and I was able to maintain that power throughout the whole race... I am happy because I showed the best version of myself, and I went way better than what I expected. I'm very satisfied with my performance and I have no regret for the podium."

Performance coach Vasilis Anastopoulos, has been monitoring Edo's training since the beginning of the season. Both put in a lot of work coming into this race, with satisfactory results after all:

"With the Europeans being the first big target for Edo, we started working towards this race in June. Edo combined some track training with some specific intense training on the TT bike and we used racing to fine tune up his form. For example he was asked to join the break every day during the hard tour of Aosta, do specific work in tour of Alsace, always with an eye towards the European Championships. I can see in his TrainingPeaks file is that during his effort he averaged 450 watts (NP465) and paced himself almost perfectly, averaging 456 watts for the first half of the race and 448 in the later end of the course. He also scored his season best 6 min, 10 min, 20 min and 30 min efforts showing that all the work paid off and he was on his top form on race day."
