Today’s stage marked the final of the 2021 edition of the Tour d’Alsace. After a solid day yesterday, in which Harrison Wood was part of the breakaway until the final part of the day, and thanks to this performance, he was awarded as the Most Combative Rider of the day. Marco Frigo also defended himself well in the last climb, crossing the line in 13th place in the day. Today the story in the early part was similar as in the days before. A breakaway of 8 riders broke clear in the early part, and despite an effort by Daan Hoole to bridge the gap alone, they were up the road and the Dutch rider went back into the peloton together with all his teammates. The peloton managed the gap well at all times and was almost onto the 8 leaders with 10 km to go. Dries de Pooter and Daan Hoole was involved in a crash with a bit less than 8 km to go, but they could make it back to the bunch. In a chaotic finale, Wessel Krul sprinted to ninth, and Marco Frigo secured a Top 15 placement in the overall standings. Pim Ligthart, Academy DS: “Today it was a very aggressive last stage, sadly we were caught in the crashes with Daan (Hoole) and Dries (de Pooter), but they are fine and Marco (Frigo) helped Wessel (Krul) for the sprint. Overall qe can look back to a strong race, we just missed out on the stage win but we fall 0.7 seconds shy of the stage win in the TTT and we were combative all along, with Dries and Marco showing themselves in the tough stages. That means that the condition of the team is great and we are looking foward to the next goals”
