We are delighted to announce that Vasilis Anastopoulos will be joining Deuceuninck – Quick Step as a trainer from next season onwards. Anastopoulos served as Performance Coach before being appointed as Performance Manager in 2017 and has been part of the project since its early steps in 2014. “When SEG Cycling’s management started the team, we set the goal of creating one of the best development teams in the world. Five years down the line we can be really proud of what we have accomplished and of the fact that indeed, SEG Racing Academy is recognized as one of the best development teams in the world”.

With Anastopoulos as part of the Performance Staff, the Academy has achieved more than 40 UCI victories, 3 U23 European titles, 8 National Championships and a total of 24 riders had later their shot at the professional ranks. “The Academy gave me the opportunity and tools to work with some really talented riders. Since the very first day, I was allowed total freedom to apply my training philosophy and see how far I could go as a trainer. I can’t thank enough all the riders an staff members I had the pleasure to work with during my 5-year run with the team”.

From 2020 onwards he will be joining one of the most powerful WorldTour squads, Deuceuninck – Quick Step, in which he will be involved as one of the trainers of the team. “Being able to join such an iconic organisation is an amazing professional opportunity and I am looking forward to making the most out of it. Personally, I will be leaving a lot behind as the relationships that I developed over the time at the Academy is something that I am really proud of, but at the same time I will be learning a lot and working along with some big names in the sport, which is really exciting”.

Eelco Berkhout, SEG Cycling Director and UCI Registrated Agent:

“When we decided to start our own development academy back in 2014, Vasilis was the first one we got in contact with. Together we discussed how to create the best set up to develop U23 riders and make them ready for their next career step. We gave him total freedom to create his most ideal performance plan. From summer 2014 onwards, Vasi gave more than his 100% to get the best out of SEG Racing Academy riders, without him we never could be on the level where we are now. He created a really strong performance team with whom he shared all his knowledge. We are more than proud that after five years he gets the opportunity to move onto Deceuninck Quick-Step. The legacy Vasi build over his time at SEG Racing Academy will be our starting point for the future”

From the Academy, we want to wish Anastopoulos all the best in his next step, and we want to thank him for everything that he has done over the past five years for our team.
