Tomorrow the U23 World Championships will kick-off for the Academy representatives as Daan Hoole and Barnabás Peák will defend their national colors in the time trial. The parcour features a start in Ripon and will finish 30 km later in Harrogate.

For Daan Hoole it will be his first U23 World Championships experience after a really solid season in which he has to yet finish lower the ninth in a time trial. The Dutchman claimed the U23 Dutch National TT title in late-June and finished less than one second off the win in Giro valle d’Aosta’s prologue, before powering to sixth in the U23 European TT Championships celebrated in Alkmaar. “Daan will do the race without any stress as the targets we set at the beginning of the season were accomplished already by winning the U23 Dutch national title and taking 6th in the Europeans. He has been improving on the TT bike all year long, so he can perform really well in the race” highlights Performance Manager Vasilis Anastopoulos.

Meanwhile, Barnabás Peák will start in the U23 World Championships for the third time and he will aim for a solid result after taking third in the Elite Hungarian TT Nationals, a title he won in 2018. The future Mitchelton-Scott rider has been battling against some health issues in the last weeks, but his 15th place in the overall classification of the Tour de l’Avenir previews that he will be back at his best in Yorkshire. “The health issues have certainly been a setback in his preparation. Alike Daan, he has been doing some specific TT training after the Tour de l’Avenir and I hope that his condition will be good coming into tomorrow’s race, so he can fight for a good result”.
