Another hard day at the Giro
After yesterday’s rest day, we were up for yet another day at the Giro d’Italia U23. Today’s stage presented a predominantly flat parcour all the way to the foot of the Passo del Maniva, a first category climb that awaited the riders to finish the day up there. Once again, the day was off to a fast start with several attempts to create a breakaway.

Our flag was well-represented in those moves as Ide Schelling was part of an early on that eventually got pulled back. At the end it was a group of 4 riders the ones who made the break of the day, with a 16-man group chasing them. Shortly into the climb the front groups joined so the peloton was chasing a 20-man group. It was sort of an elimination race, with the front group featuring less riders as the peloton approached until the final attacks from the Colombian National Team started.

Our best finisher was Alex Evans of the day. Tomorrow we have a really special day ahead, as the stage will present a double ascension to the mythical Mortirolo, a day that all the bunch will remember.
