Bol closes the Top 10 in Famenne Ardenne Classic
In the middle of the World Championships action, the Academy lineup up for the second edition of 1.1’s Famenne Ardenne Classic. The race presented a broken parcour with several short steep climbs that were set to play a big role in deciding the day’s winner. The start was marked by several attempts to make it to the breakaway and at the end, it was a group of four riders the ones making it up front.

The toughness of the profile and the length of the race (194 km), allowed the attackers to make a gap of almost seven minutes before the bunch picked up the pace and brought the main group closer. In the final 50 km the race went flat out all the way to the line and the break was brought back with 11 km left with two climbs left. Our Cees Bol was always well-positioned in the bunch and smartly controlled all the accelerations and arrived to the closing kilometers with the front group. However, Marten Kooistra, who was riding also in the main peloton saw his chances slip away because of a mechanical problem.

Three riders arrived in the last kilometers with a few meters over the group that Flèche Ardennaise winner, Cees Bol, was in. In the final rush, all got together with our Dutchman crossing the line in tenth place after a really solid effort against a strong field, showing his consistency and well-doing in this type of races.

Five of our riders will be racing in their National colors tomorrow in Innsbruck at the U23 World Championships Road Race, but we will be back in Academy colors on the 30th of September in the start line of Netherland’s Ronde van Midden Brabant.
