Cees Bol finishes second overall in Circuit des Ardennes
Today’s last day in France’s Circuit des Ardennes featured a hard and hill double sector before wrapping up the 2018 edition of the race, with our Cees Bol starting the day third in the overall classification. The 80 km morning stage had a total of four categorized climbs, and a group of three rider formed the breakaway of the day. But the high pace that the bunch held during the whole length of the stage did not allow any moves to get a significant gap. The last categorized climb was placed 10 km away from the finish line and after neutralizing some late attacks the bunch rode in one piece all the way to the finish line. Our riders worked together to put Cees Bol in position and the strong Dutchman crossed the line in eighth place with lead-out man Ide Schelling in 12th. Thanks to entering in the front group, Bol moved into second overall with one stage to go.

The afternoon sector followed the same line as the three previous ones and featured a 106 km long stage with five climbs in the way. Four riders moved away from the peloton early on, and they were joined in the last 10 km with another rider putting Cees Bol’s GC ambition in danger. Our riders organized themselves and worked to close down the gap with the front group. One of the members of the breakaway won the stage by one second, with the bunch coming all together behind, with Bol rolling in 11th. Following those results, the strong 22-year Dutchman secured an impressive second place overall with teammate Ide Schelling finishing in 13th in the final GC.

Cees Bol, second overall in the 2018 Circuit des Ardennes:
“Coming into the race I knew that it was going to be hard to be up there, because of the long climbs but I was strong enough to be in the front and fight for the win everyday. I had an amazing team helping me in every step of the way and today they worked really hard in order to bring back the break at the end, so there were no time gaps and I could keep my position in the general classification. I am really happy with my result and how we rode as a team, I can’t wait for the upcoming races”.
