After two stage wins and a very solid opening TTT, our talents were set to compete today in the last stage of the Czech Tour which featured a hilly route aimed to decide the final GC. Again a fast start marked the initial kilometers, with our riders sitting in the bunch while a group of five riders made it up the road.

As the race was advancing through the climbs, the gap was coming down so was the number of riders in the main bunch. Daan Hoole, Stan van Tricht and Marco Frigo represented the Academy colors in the final part. Coming into the last lap and final climb, Marco Frigo was part of the group featuring the 20 best climbers in the race. At the end, our talented Italian climber crossed the line just outside the Top 10, in 11th place, which moved him up all the way to 14th in the general classification. Also, thanks to his back-to-back stage wins, Jordi Meeus will take home the green points jersey of the race.

Aike Visbeek, Academy Director and DS for the race looks back at the first stage race of the season:
“We had a really good start of the second part of the 2020 season. The Performance Staff and the riders worked really hard to be at a very high level, the TTT already showed that. After that we had a very clear plan to sprint with Jordi (Meeus), everyone committed and that was a clear success, with the climbers working hard as well to help the leadout train and today it was the GC battle and Daan (Hoole), Stan van Tricht and Marco (Frigo) made it into the first big peloton and after that Marco was up there with the best 20 climbers of the race showing already a very high level. There’s plenty to come from the guys because they are in really good shape, and we can we proud of what we have accomplished”.
