Dainese sprints to fifth in Normandie and stays in green
30/03/2019
After yesterday’s strong win by Bárnabas Peák and Alberto Dainese sprinting to second, we were ready to fight again for our third win in this edition of the Tour de Normandie. The stage presented a predominantly flat parcour with a final local circuit that presented a short steep climb in the way to the finish.
The Academy jerseys could be seen quickly in the front of the bunch as Daan Hoole worked alongside the team of the race leader in order to keep the 3-man breakaway within a safe distance, allowing them close to three minutes maximum. Once the race hit the local circuit the team gathered together to deliver Alberto Dainese into the best possible position coming into the final rush to the line.
The team put in the work but in the crucial moments of the sprint, our Italian rider was blocked in the barriers, being able to cross the line in the fifth position of the day, which allows him to stay on top of the Points Classification coming into tomorrow’s final stage.
Vasilis Anastopoulos, Performance Manager and DS for the race:
“We wanted a bunch sprint for Alberto, that’s why we send daan in front to work with joker and keep the break of 3 under control. The final circuit was very hard but the team did a great job to bring the group together but at the last uphill finish Alberto did a small mistake and was blocked to the barriers, so he couldn’t sprint and finished 5th. One last shot tomorrow!”
