After yesterday’s tough start, marked by crashes in the crucial moments of the stage, our riders hit the road in today’s stage two with the goal of redeeming themselves from the bad vibes. And what a way to do it.
Three riders broke clear of the peloton shortly after the stage started, and the team of the GC leader was the one that took the responsibility of the chase while our riders sat in the bunch together, saving up the legs. In the closing kilometers of the race, our youngsters moved up the bunch to position Alberto Dainese coming into the final rush to the line.
Our Italian sprinter left no doubt that he was the strongest today and won the sprint by quite some distance, taking 10” as a bonus which moves him to the top of GC classification, as well as the Best Young Riders one. Today’s win accounts as the seventh UCI win of the Academy in less than two months of competition and the second in the winning counter of the 21-year old.
