Dainese takes second in the opening day in Normandie
Today it was the start of our first stage race of the season, Tour de Normandie. The 7-day long stage race kicked off with a 159 km long stage, which featured several laps to a local circuit before the finish. After some early attempts, a 4-man breakaway went up the road with the peloton allowing more than 4 minutes before picking up the pace shrinking the distance.

No Academy riders were part of the early move, instead, all six sat nice and easy in the wheels saving energy for the hectic final awaiting. However, things got more chaotic in the last 30 km as a succession of crashes causes several splits in the peloton, with our Marten Kooistra and Alberto Dainese making it to the front one. Bad luck was on the side of Hungarian Champion, Bárnabas Peák, who was caught in one of the crashes, even though that it was a hard fall he could complete the stage.

The breakaway was brought already in the final local circuit when the race was heading for a bunch sprint. In the final rush to the line, our Alberto Dainese took second in the day and sits in the same position in the overall classification, next to leading the Young Riders table. After today’s close call, tomorrow we will have another opportunity to fight for the win.
