Yesterday’s Le Samyn, was the first outing in SEG Racing Academy colors for former Junior Belgian Road Race champion Dries de Pooter. The 18-year old talent joined the Academy straight from the junior ranks with the aim of finetuning his development and learning it all from our experienced staff. “I expect from the 2021 season that I will gain a lot of experience and just learn a bit more about myself in the hard races. I would like to work extra on my favorite short efforts between 30-60 seconds. Also, I would like to work hard on my time trial bike! I think the Academy is the best place to develop myself in the under 23 category. With such an amazing team around my, I am 100% convinced that I will be a lot stronger every year and that I will take steps for the upcoming years!” highlights de Pooter.
Talking about the early days of the sport and his upbringing, Dries looks back to a short stint into football before making switching to cycling and following his life-long dream. “I started cycling because my father and grandfather learned me to ride my bike and after a few years when my football career was a bit done I made the switch to cycling and so it began! I think my specialties are the efforts between 30-60 seconds and I am also not slow at the end of a hard race. My other hobbies are fishing and playing f1 in my simulator. My goals for 2021 are very simple. Just gain a lot of experience. And hopefully, take a victory. My favorite races need to be the classic races. The short hills are my favorites. My dream race to win is without any doubt the world. Riding in such a beautiful jersey is my biggest dream!
