The coveted red-white-blue jersey as U23 Dutch National Champion will be back in our roster, as David Dekker will enter into his last year in the category as part of the Academy roster. Dekker, who in 2019 seized a total of five wins, met his new teammates last month in Eindhoven. “It was very nice. The atmosphere was really good and we had a lot of fun during those two days. It really gives me the confidence that we are going to race as a tight team the upcoming season, which is very important”.
The 21-year old has a clear mindset and image of the goals that he wants to tick off his last once the next season comes to an end. “My main objective for 2020 will be to sign a professional contract. As a bike rider, my ambition next year is to be more consistent in bunch sprints and to become better rider in tough and hilly races”.
Dekker, who before Christmas stayed in Spain for a while to keep up with his preparations for 2020, has already shortlisted the races that he would like to go for a result in. “I really want to perform in stage races like Tour de Normandie and Tour de Bretagne. Also, the set of U23 races that the team will do will be a goal of mine, and of course I want to defend my U23 Dutch Road Race title in mid-June. But next to that I really want to show what I am capable of in 1.1 races among the professional riders”.
