Edoardo Affini is ready to shine in the U23 European Championships
Tomorrow our Edoardo Affini will compete in the Italian national team colors in the U23 European time trial, a race in which he powered to fourth last year. The strong Italian will arrive in the Czech Republic after claiming the double in the Italian nationals as he took home both, the road race and the time trial, titles as well as the gold medal in the Mediterranean Games. “I am really proud of this results and it will be a big honor to wear the Tricolore jersey in both disciplines, it will something that I will never forget,  but I want to keep on going” shares Affini.

The 21-year old Italian currently holds four wins under his belt and has shown himself as one of the most dominant time trialists of the category with three wins in that discipline. Affini has been working alongside the Academy scientists for two seasons and in the weeks leading to the Giro d’Italia U23 they set up a specific training plan in order to improve his position and look for those extra watts on the bike. “In terms of the preparation, all the hard work was done before the Giro d’Italia U23, which proved that we were in the right direction and that gives me a lot of confidence going into the race. After that, it has been all about good recovery and a few sessions with specific efforts”.

In last year’s U23 European Championships, Edoardo Affini felt eight seconds short to the bronze medal after a really well-paced effort. One year on and countless specific training sessions afterward Affini is really looking forward to stepping up his performance and fight for the win. “At this point, I am expecting to be in contention for the win and take the jersey. Time trials are always different and you can not feel super on the bike every day, but for sure I will roll out with confidence, ready to give my best and end this great racing period with a win”.
