Today the Borrego Springs Crit marked the opening shot of the SEG eRacing U23 Series. The 3-day long eRacing competition kicked off with a fast and flat parcour that features five laps to a squared circuit. The race was off to a fast start and all the early attempts to break clear were brought back by the peloton.

The pace was always kept high and different riders were committed and pushed hard, which led to some riders being dropped. Coming to the final end of the stage, Daan Hoole tried to move away from the fast-paced bunch, but his attack was brought back with around 3 km to the finish. However the U23 Dutch National TT Champion did not stop there and went again a kilometre later, but was again chased down. Maikel Zijlaard also tried his luck coming into the flamme rouge, but the Jordi Meeus took perfectly timed the sprint and outpowered all his rivals, coming home with the win and the leader’s jersey. Lars Droogmans finished in second place, and Axel van der Tuuk (Jumbo Visma Development) rounded out the podium.

Tomorrow the riders will face the second stage of the competition, as the will tackle the Paterberg climb a total of 10 times. The race will be live streamed on our Youtube Channel.

Jordi Meeus, stage winner and current leader of the SEG eRacing U23 Series:
“I’m very happy with the victory. We had a plan and David (Dekker) and I were the two leaders. Sadly David could not contest the sprint so I had to take the responsibility and deliver. The team did a fantastic job, and with the late-attacks from Daan (Hoole) and Maikel (Zijlaard) you could see that we were really committed to the win. It feels great to be part of this, so we are all looking forward to tomorrow”.
