We are very happy to announce that our Alex Evans, will move up to the professional ranks as he will join Wanty – Groupe Gober on a two-year deal. This way the talented Australian rider will become our sixth graduate of the 2019 class. “I am thrilled to be joining one of the best Pro Continental teams in the circuit and I look forward to racing to the best of my ability with them for the next two seasons” points out the 21-year old.
Evans, who joined the Academy ahead of the 2019 season and underwent his first year of racing in Europe, seized some strong results in our colors as he powered to second in the Tour d’Alsace’s stage 3 that finished all the way up La Planche des Belles Filles, and took an impressive solo win in the eighth stage of his first-ever Tour de l’Avenir. “Racing this year with the Academy really opened my doors to the European circuit. They provided me with all the needed tools to improve and gave me countless opportunities to show myself throughout the season. 2019 will be a year I will never forget as I have been part of the best development team in the world” highlights Evans.
Wanty – Groupe Gobert is one of the most powerful Pro Continental squads and will offer Evans a high-quality racing program and the adequate training guidance to keep on developing him as a bike rider. “I am really excited to be stepping up with them and further my development for the next two years. I have worked really hard to have an opportunity like this on the table and I am not going to let it slip away”.
Mark Isaacs, SEG Cycling Asia Director & UCI Registered Agent:
“Alex (Evans) has shown that he was one of the best climbers in the U23 ranks and his stage win in the Tour de l’Avenir was just proof of that. Coming all the way from Australia and racing in Europe in his last year in the category showcases his commitment and strong mindset. At the Academy, he was provided with the right training guidance, accommodation in Girona and a solid racing calendar that matched his skills so he could show what he was capable of”.
