It took less than 20 km in today’s Arno Wallamaard Memorial for the wind to break the race into small groups. After a hectic start, our Fabio Jakobsen, Martijn de Jong and Ide Schelling were all well-positioned and quickly bridged to the first group. Unfortunately, Ide was involved in an unlucky accident and couldn’t get back to the front group. The good understanding among the breakaway members allowed the group to keep on growing its gap, giving the chasers no chance to make it back.
Martijn did a big amount of work riding in front of the break before it split with 40 km to go. Fabio Jakobsen made the cut, together with nine riders, and went up the road. There was a lot of attacking in the closing kilometers of the day, with a group of three riders eventually creating a gap to fight themselves for the win. In a brave attempt to get the win, Fabio Jakobsen launched a deep attack in the last kilometer, eventually coming short in the chase to the three leaders but getting himself a well-deserved fourth place.
Great effort guys! Back to it tomorrow with Ton Dolmans Trofee!
