That is wrap for us at the 40th edition of the Giro d’Italia U23. The race was off to a fast start, and it took more than an hour of racing before the breakaway finally went clear. Once again our guys showed great fighting spirit and Julius van den Berg represented the team in the first attacks, but it was Stevie Williams the one who was part of the 16-man group that went up the road.
The peloton allowed the leaders up to three minutes and the gap started to fall when they were getting close the special category climb. A few kilometers in the climb a reduced peloton catched the front group and they played the victory among them after keeping a fast pace all the way up Campo Imperatore.
We fought until the very last day, but it wasn't possible to finish off all the effort. It was a great week of learning lessons and development for our guys, but above all it was a unique experience for everyone in the team!
We will come back!
