George Stavrakakis will complete the Academy’s roster for 2018

We are happy to welcome Georgios Stavrakakis to our 2018 roster. The 19-year old, who claimed the 2016 Junior European Individual Pursuit title, had been already for followed by our Performance Staff for a long period of time.

Academy Manager Bart van Haaren comments on the signing of George Stavrakakis, the first ever Greek rider on the team:
“Georgios is a very talented rider. After joining our January training camp in 2017, we made up a long term plan together. We advised and helped Georgios to move himself to Belgium and to join a strong Belgium club. That move was a very important step in his development and it shows his dedication. Last August Georgios convinced our performance staff that he was ready to take on the next step during all the tests done during our Talent Day”.

Georgios, says that is a dream come true to join he Academy: “After joining the training camp in 2017, I knew this was the team who could assist me in achieving my ambitious goals. It is not easy to succeed on the road as there are not a lot of races where I live. Therefore, moving to Belgium last year made my win a lot of experience and keep growing as a rider” points out the 19-year Greek talent.

Stavrakakis joined our team building camp last weekend in Eindhoven: “I was great to finally meet the team and the staff and see all the facilities of the team. I really like one-day races, so I would like to develop myself into a classics rider, but also I will keep on focusing on the time trial. The team offers racing program that allows me to give my all, so I can not wait to pin on the numbers!”.
