In the first two stages of the Giro d’Italia U23, our talents showed their strength with two solid Top 10 finishes, and today the mindset was no different and we set out with the goal of fighting for the win. As per usual in the first couple of days, a large breakaway went away, with this time around 8 riders featuring the move. All our talents stayed safe and easy in the bunch saving up the legs for a hard finale.

However, the gap of the breakaway got all the way up to 3 minutes despite the peloton rode the first hour of the race over a 48 km/h average. The bunch started to close the gap coming into the ending kilometers but the breakaway of the day stayed away and fought for the day’s glory. Back in the main group, our Stan van Tricht put on a good sprint and overcame some positions but missed out on the Top 10 of the day. Tomorrow we will have another opportunity as a 25 km long time trial awaits the riders.

Stan van Tricht, on today’s stage:
“The strength to fight for a stage win is definitely there but I am a bit disappointed that only yesterday I had a real opportunity for the win. The break stayed away for 2 times now so we will have to regroup and rethink our strategy as we move deeper into the race. More opportunities will come”
