After the queen stage, it was the turn for another fast and furious day at the Giro d’Italia U23. Just 115 km, but with two category ones climbs in the way, was the menu for the bunch on the eighth day of the race. It was off again to a fast start, with a large group of 38 riders making it up the road.
The main group allowed the attackers a comfortable gap as it quickly went up close to the four-minute gap. The breakaway made its way up the last climb, and because of an early attack, it got reduced to around 20 units. Marco Frigo was actively involved in the chase and eventually got up the road in a four-men group with 10 km to go.
One of the riders of the leading group attacked and took the glory of the win while Frigo crossed the line in the group behind to clinch a solid fifth place. Today the riders will face another tough stage, including three category one climbs as well as a category three one
Marco Frigo, is positive about what is to come:
“You always want to win, that’s why I ride, but I can extract some positives from today. I missed something in my legs to follow the acceleration that eventually was the winning one. However, today’s stage is quite similar and a bit longer, so why not trying it again and fighting for the win?”
