Hard day up La Planche des Belles Filles
One of the hardest stages of the Tour d’Alsace was up for grabs today. The 143 km long parcour included a total of five categorized climbs along the way and it presented a hard-fought battle all the way until the end. The peloton was off to a fast start and after several attempts to make it to the breakaway, with Thymen Arensman representing our colors, it was a group of four riders the ones who made the cut.

Once the four-man group was away there were several counter-attacks that could not distance themselves from the main group. The Academy riders stayed together through the hilly and challenging parcours with the goal to arrive as fresh as possible to the final climb. The toughness of the infamous Planche des Belles Filles, broke the race into pieces and quickly selected the front group.

The hard pace of the bunch affected the Academy riders, who could not keep up with the first group after a tough day out. Tomorrow, there’s another opportunity with the queen stage of the race that will feature a total of six categorized climbs, finishing all the way up the Col de Calvaire.
