Cullaigh drops out in the Giro’s hottest day

It was the hottest day in the Giro d’Italia U23, reaching 38°C during the stage. The race presented a challenging parcour that features up to five categorized climbs, including an uphill finish all the way up to Casalincontrada.

Our team was not off to a good start as Gabriel Cullaigh was forced to withdraw of the race shortly after the start because of sickness. The race went on and quickly a 15-man group went up the road forming the breakaway of the day. That leading group made it all the way to the finish line, with the peloton controlling the tempo and gap behind. The last climb of the day featured slopes of the 14% before the finish, and it was where the winning move was made. Our riders finished the stage in the main group behind the breakaway members.

One more day to go at the Giro. We will keep on fighting until the end!
