Ide Schelling: “I feel like this is the best winter training I have ever done”
Ide Schelling joined the team last season as a first year U23 with the main goal of learning as much as possible of his teammates and races in order to improve as a bike rider. One year later and after a solid period of training during winter time, the 19-year old Dutchman is looking forward to start racing again. “I am feeling really confident. Winter is going perfect so far, I could follow my training program without any setbacks and I even went to Girona for some days and I could enjoy a really nice training camp. I feel like this is the best winter training I have ever done, so that can only be positive ahead of the season to come!”.

Schelling, who lined-up in some of the most prestigious U23 races like Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Ronde de l’Isard, Giro valle d’Aosta and Olympia’s Tour, seized the KOM jersey in the Nations Cup’s Course de la Paix and is hoping that all the learning process he underwent last year pays off in the upcoming season. “I want to be a better rider and see how my line of progress goes up. Last season I got a lot of experience thanks to the great calendar that the team puts together, so my goal will be to show myself in the field again in national and international races. I hope to get high-placements in stages and one-day classics, but I also want to show my combativeness and target KOM and points classifications in stage races”.

When it comes to his set of skills, Schelling hopes to improve his climbing ability in the upcoming years. The transition from the Junior ranks to the U23 circuit it is a big jump for all riders, but the talented Dutchman relies on a strong mindset in order to be able to max out his potential. ” When I came from Junior racing program I thought I was pretty well when it came to climbing. But when I did some of the real stuff stuff this year in the Italian alps or French Pyrenees I had a hard time finishing in top-40. Those races do attract the best riders of the world of course but I would like to see myself performing better there”.
