Today we started in the U23 version of cycling’s monument, Il Giro di Lombardia, named Il Piccolo Lombardia at this category. The profile featured a rolling first part in which flat roads were predominant, but the final 60 km where a succession of ups and downs all the way until completing the 177 km long parcour.  The race was off to a fast start in which many attackers tried their luck and went up the road. Eventually, it was a group of 4 riders the ones that featured the move that stuck but the bunch got organised really quick. Our Alberto Dainese in his bright-looking U23 European Champion kit, worked hard in the front of the bunch to keep the breakaway within a safe distance before the tough part came.  As the main group hit the slopes of the infamous Madonna di Ghisallo, the race broke into pieces. Our Alex Evans represented the Academy flag in some of the counter-attacks, but the eventual winning move went away without any of our riders in it. At the end, the day’s glory was decided in sprint à deux in the streets of Oggiono. No Academy riders could be found within the Top 20 of the day.  Our season is approaching its endpoint for 2019, but we still have some cool action coming up next weekend as we will race in France’s Paris Tours and back on home soil for Netherland’s Tacx Pro Classic.
