Jakobsen sprints to third in Olympia’s Tour stage 5
After scoring back-to-back wins in the last two stages, it was time to get back to work ahead of Olympia’s Tour stage 5. Today’s course featured 129 km with start and finish in the Dutch city of Offenbeek. In the very beginning it was our Julius van den Berg, who attempted to brake clear of the peloton, but he was never allowed a gap and was quickly brought back by the pack.

Eventually, it was a 4-man group the one that made the cut and formed the break of the day. The maximum gap allowed by the bunch was a little bit more than three minutes, before they started to cut it back. Once again our riders were involved in the chase with the aim of giving the two times stage winner, Fabio Jakobsen, to fight for the victory. As the bunch was getting closer to the front of the race, the leading group started to lose members with the last one being caught with just 3 kilometers to the line. Our guys worked on the lead-out for the two-year running U23 Dutch champion, and Fabio sprinted to third.

Edo Affini, Marten Kooistra and Julius van den Berg got safely to the line and the three of them kept their GC spots safe. Our strong Italian riders sits third in the overall classification ahead of tomorrow’s final stage, and his two Dutch teammates stay in fourth and seventh respectively. With only one day to go we still on top of the teams classification with more than one minute and a half ahead of the closest rival.
