Jan Maas: “A win in an UCI race will be my main goal”
Jaan Maas is the whole package. The young Dutchman is not only a very talented bike rider, but also a very smart student who just graduated. “Now that I am done with school I have some extra time to train and work even harder. I have been making progress every winter, so I trust on that for the upcoming season”.

The 21-year old had a great 2017 season, his first with the Academy, showing skills as complete rider with great GC performances (ninth in l’Isard and 15th in Tryptique) and solid results in one-day races (Top 10 in Flèche Ardennaisse, Gooikse Pijl and Paris-Tours), which earned him a spot in the national team for the Tour de l’Avenir for second year in a row. Maas knows that this is just the begining and he is working with the Academy’s staff to improve his abilities. “I look forward to give myself that extra punch on the hills so I can have a better acceleration. I am already working with Marco Brienissen (Strength and Conditioning coach) and with Jeroen Gerritsen (physiotherapist). Also with with Vasilis Anastopoulos (Performance manager) we are working on increasing my power in specific zones. I don’t want to specialize in sprinting or climbing, I just want to go to the hardest races and rock there”.

When it comes to races and results, the talented Dutchman has a clear image of what he wants to achieve. “My goal is to fight for the win during the whole season” says Maas, who does not lack ambition when talking about 2018. “I am feeling good and confident. I want to perform in the races that suit me best like Tour de Bretagne, Flèche Ardennaise and Liège-Bastogne-Liège as well as in the hardest ones of the season like the Giro d’Italia U23 and the Tour de l’Avenir. A win in an UCI race will be my main goal, and it must be possible if I keep working like this”.
