Jordi Meeus and Jan Maas ride into the Top 10 in RVMNL
Today’s Ronde van Midden Nederland featured the sixth and last round of the Holland’s Cup, with a 190 km long parcour with start and finish in Utrecht. The race was off to a fast start and quickly a group of 3 riders went up the road and opened a gap to the main group. The bunch did not allow much room to the leading trio and kept the distance always close to one minute.

The negative side of the day was marked by a crash that our Daan Hoole was involved in. Sadly, the 19-year old Dutchman was forced to abandon due to pain in the knee. The race broke down afterwards, with a group of 24 riders going up the road, with Jordi Meeus and Jan Maas keeping the Academy colors well-represented at all times. The numerous group cooperated together and worked to increase the gap to the bunch, which could not get them back.

The closing kilometers of the day were a succession of attacks between different members of the front group, with the winning rider jumping away with 4 kilometers left. The chasing group could not close the gap, and both of our riders sprinted for the second place in the group behind, with Jordi Meeus coming to the line in sixth place overall and Jan Maas in ninth.

Today’s race was the final wrap to this season’s Holland Cup, in which Cees Bol and Julius van den Berg have filled the two top spots of the overall classification.
