Jordi Meeus finishes in the front at Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic
Today’s Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic presented a 191,5 km long parcour over predominantly flat roads and a strong field of riders. The race was off to a quiet start as the 4-man breakaway that stayed away for most of the day was quickly formed in the first kilometers of the race. Our riders reminded well-positioned in the main group saving energy for the closing part of the day.

The breakaway was allowed three minutes before the bunch picked up the pace. Once the race was back on a lot of tactical moves took place, but our Daan Hoole kept the Academy colors well-represented at all times, before actually attacking himself and going solo when less than 20 km reminded. The peloton chased down Hoole’s attack as well as any other attempts to avoid a final bunch sprint. It was only with 2 km to go that the race was back in one piece, and in the final sprint, our Jordi Meeus powered to 15th overall against a strong field of sprinters.

It was great to see the Academy riders showing their combatitiveness in a start list that was filled by numerous professional teams as well as WorldTour’s. Next up for us it is Ronde van Midden Nederland the coming 26th of August.
