Jordi Meeus: “I look back really good on the first weekend of racing”
04/03/2019
After several months, two training camps in Loutraki, and thousands of miles on the bike it was about time to be back in the Belgian and Dutch one-day races. Jordi Meeus featured the line-up in both races finishing second in Ronde van Groningen. “Personally, I look back really good on the first weekend of racing, the legs felt really good and form is on point. I could win the sprint for the second place which gave me confidence for the next races! As a team, we made some mistakes, but we have a lot of new riders in the team and the first races are always part of the learning process”.
Our Belgian sprinter spent quite some time in Loutraki, where he could take the most of the good weather and the variety of roads and terrains in order to improve and build a solid base. “The first part of the winter we worked a lot on endurance and building out the engine, later in the winter we worked hard on explosive power and sprints, which paid off already on Saturday”.
Last season, Jordi Meeus outpowered a really strong field filled with many professional riders and took the win in 1.1’s Gooikse Pijl, after coming close to the win in the bunch sprints of Olympia’s Tour. For the coming season, the 20-year old has a clear image of what he wants to achieve. “My goals are basically to compete as much as possible for victory. To show myself in the 1.1 races we do and try to win important u23 races like Tour of Flanders and Roubaix. I feel confident and really look forward to the next races to come”.
