Jordi Meeus takes the win 1.1’s Gooiske Pijl
After yesterday’s action in Tour de l’Eurométropole, we were back in action with 1.1’s Gooiske Pijl. The race was off to a fast start, with dangerous moves being done from early on featuring some of the favorites for the day. Cees Bol was in an early 7-man group which was eventually neutralized after the peloton split in two because of the crashes.

The breakaway of the day included our Jordi Meeus alongside four other riders, but after some kilometers, the leading riders were joined by another group of 6 members. The fast pace imposed in the head of the race led to the front group to lose units as they faced the last 10 km with 6 riders. Despite the pushing speed that the peloton set in the final end of the day the breakaway made it to the line and in the reduced bunch sprint our Jordi Meeus perfectly controlled the situation and took home his first win of the season. Back in the bunch Alberto Dainese won the bunch sprint and placed sixth in the day, in yet another great performance by the Italian sprinter.

This way Meeus scores the 36th Academy win of this season and the first at 1.1 level and two Academy riders fill two of the first sixth spots of a race in which many professional teams started. Tomorrow, our Edoardo Affini will seek to keep the streak going in the U23 World Championships TT in Innsbruck, Austria.
