Kooistra takes second in the second day of the Olympia’s Tour
Yesterday’s opening stage, which was marked by the strong wind, saw three Academy riders power into the Top 10 of the day and overall of the 2018 Olympia’s Tour, with Ide Schelling sitting in second in both classifications. Today it was the turn for the second stage with start and finish in Emmen that featured again a flat parcour devoted to a final bunch sprint. Two riders jumped off the bunch in the first part of the stage, and even though that they were allowed over four minutes the bunch kept the distance under control at all times.

All six Academy riders sat safely in the bunch, the stage went on without problems as the wind was not as strong as yesterday. In the closing part of the stage our riders worked together into delivering Jordi Meeus into the best possible position for the final rush. Sadly, our Belgian sprinter misjudged the last corner and could not sprint for the win when he was in first position with 150 m left. However the lead-out man, Marten Kooistra took over the role and sprinted to second in the stage.

With two days into the race, we have Ide Schelling in second overall and Marten Kooistra in fourth thanks to the bonus seconds he seized today. Daan Hoole reminds in seventh place and that allows the Academy to keep the top spot in the Best Team classification. Tomorrow’s stage will see the bunch complete a 184 km long stage between Gieten and Hellendoorn, which will be decided after three local laps.
