Marten Kooistra seals a second overall at Olympia’s Tour
After six hard stages spaced in five days, the Olympia’s Tour was set to have today its finale today. We started the day with Marten Kooistra, who won yesterday’s morning stage, in second place overall and Ide Schelling in third. Edoardo Affini who completed a great ride in the time trial was sitting in seventh place.

The day started in a fast way as it could not be in any other way, and a group of 17 riders went away after the first bonus sprint with Marten Kooistra, Edoardo Affini and Jordi Meeus representing the Academy flag up front. At first, the leading group was not allowed much room, and the bunch kept it under one minute at all times. Even though that the main group got really close the junction was never made and the leading group grew its gap to over three minutes.

In the final end of the stage our Jordi Meeus showed his combative skills and went solo in the last five kilometers trying to break the final reduced sprint, but he was caught before the last kilometer. In the end, Marten Kooistra rolled in the front group and secured his second place overall and Edoardo Affini moved to fourth place. We wrap up the Olympia’s Tour, with one stage win, one day in the leader’s jersey and three riders within the Top 10 of the General Classification. Such a display of strength as a team allowed the Academy to finish as the Best Team of the race for the second year in a row.
