Marten Kooistra: “Tour d’Alsace and the EC will be my coming goals”
Marten Kooistra joined the Academy as first year U23 in the 2016 season and is now completing his fourth year in the category in our colors. The Dutchman, who last year scored a stage win and second overall in Olympia’s Tour before seizing the victory in Paris Tours U23 in impressive solo style, has kept on improving and has big goals set for the second half of the season. “I think that I have been improving every year and each part of the season since I joined the Academy. That’s something you feel in the races, above all at high-level”

The 21-year old Dutchman was close to the win in early May, when he finished second in Nations Cup’s Etoile d’Or after completing a solid performance in Tour de Bretagne where he placed just outside the Top 10. “I am looking back to a good season start, but I would like to have achieved a strongest result in some of the races. Far from being disappointed by that, it fuels me to keep on working hard towards the coming period”.

Tour d’Alsace and the U23 European Championships held in Dutch soil, are two of the short term goals for Kooistra who at the moment can be found in Italy in a training camp in the Stelvio Area. “I am working hard in the training camp to be in top shape for the races to come. The European Championships in Alkmaar will an important target for me, and I hope to deliver a result for my country. After that, I have an interesting program of 1.1 one-day races in which I will test myself against the best in the peloton” concludes Marten Kooistra.
