Today’s Gylne Gutuer featured the third and last leg of the UNOX-Development Weekend. The race presented a predominantly flat 174 km long parcour that attached a total of 34 gravel sections as well as cold weather conditions that made it a hard day for everyone in the peloton.
The race was off to a fast start with several, but a massive crash happened in the middle of the peloton and blocked our Ide Schelling, Marten Kooistra and trainee Wessel Krul, which was their race over. Meanwhile, the peloton was down to 40 riders due to the crashes and tough weather, but our Jordi Meeus kept on fighting hard and got himself in some of the moves. As the bunch head towards the last lap, our Sven Burger dropped back after exceptional teamwork and our Belgian rider was found in a leading 5-man group, which played for the win. In the closing kilometers two riders jumped away from that group and they win was decided among the two of them.
Meeus took the win in the sprint of the group, which accounted for third place in which was an epic day on the bike. This podium place together with yesterday’s Top 5 and Friday’s ninth place in the TT by Daan Hoole, we can look back to a solid weekend of racing in Norwegian soil.
