Meeus wins in Tombroek; Groves in GC contention in Circuit
It was an action-packed day as the Academy had representation in three different races today. Alberto Dainese, Daan Hoole and Marten Kooistra were up for Ronde van Vlaanderen u23 today. And also in Belgian soil, our team was represented in U23 Road Series’ Tombroek Koerse. It was a hectic day out, in which the Academy was well-represented in most of the last moves through Bárnabas Peák, before Jordi Meeus got himself in a group of 7 riders coming into the final part of the day. The group cooperated together and in the final sprint, our Belgian rider outpowered everyone else and put his arms in the air for the first time in the season. On a bad note, a crash that involved our George Stavrakakis forced him out of the race with a broken wrist. We wish him a speedy recovery.

While in France, after yesterday’s win by Kaden Groves the leader’s jersey was on our shoulders. Our riders went out with an offensive mindset and Alex Evans jumped in one of the moves that made it up the road of the day. However, our riders worked together in the peloton to protect the interest of our Australian sprinter. Groves, fought hard in the final kilometers and finished in fourth place in the stage, which has him sitting in second place overall, 10 seconds down the race leader coming into tomorrow’s final day.
