AMSTERDAM – Michel Cornelisse will become talent coach and Sport Director at SEG Racing Academy. The former pro cyclist joins us from Team Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij. Last May, Cornelisse had already been involved with the team as ‘guest’ Sport Director during the Ronde de l’Isard, after which talks about a more intensive cooperation began. Cornelisse will work within the Academy to develop the young talents’ tactical & technical skills. Furthermore, he will take leadership over the largest part of the racing program as Sport Director.
Michel Cornelisse: “It’s a great challenge to work with the best U23 talents. This is where I can make the difference as a trainer and mentor. Ultimately, that is where I feel the most at home. I have enjoyed very much coaching the young professional cyclists at Roompot in the past two years. Coaching young talents is my passion, so I’m eager to start with cyclists that still need to join the professional ranks. SEG Racing Academy belongs among the top U23 teams in the world, I can’t wait to start coaching these big talents with my new colleagues.”
Bart van Haaren: “We are extremely pleased to add Michel to our Performance Staff. “It feels like we’ve now the perfect performance staff to develop us further. Michel will be able to use his experience and coaching style to further develop the boys, both tactically and technically. Our young coaches will also benefit from the experience that Michel brings, while we will be challenging him to prove himself as coach and mentor at U23 level. It is a different dynamic than among the professional, and we are adamant that this will be ideal for him.
Michel Cornelisse (Amsterdam, 1965) was a professional cyclist himself between 1987 and 2000, and raced most notably for teams such as Superconfex, Panasonic and TVM. As Sport Director he worked for Vacansoleil, Dimension Data and up to this year, Team Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij.
