Today’s GP Monseré was our second appointment in our 2021 racing calendar. After a strong season debut in Le Samyn, where Daan Hoole proved his value by riding the whole day in the leading group against a very strong field, the morale and the vibe in the team were high.
The race was off to a fast start and after several attempts, the breakaway was formed by 9 riders. Our Stan van Tricht showed the first example of our fighting spirit in the day and was part of that move. The leading group was allowed up to 3 minutes by the bunch before the pace was picked up with 60 km to the line. With the peloton approaching, there were some nerves in the breakaway and after several attacks, it was a group of three riders, again with Stan van Tricht, the ones that kept on fighting until the end.
Once the breakaway was brought back, our talents worked together on creating the best possible lead out for Jesper Rasch Despite a hectic last kilometer, our riders stuck together and put the Dutch sprinter in a good position and he ended up with a hard-fought 12th place against some strong names.
Dries Hollanders, Academy DS, looks back at today’s race:
“It was a good and aggressive race by the whole team. Our pre-race goals were met quickly with Stan (van Tricht) being part of the break, but it was great to see that we were involved in every move. Once the breakaway was formed, our riders rode very smart in the peloton and rode really well together for the final sprint. It was a pity that we could not snap a Top 10 in the day. We did a very classy race, but we did not have the deserved outcome”.
