No luck but bad luck at OHN
02/07/2017
The peloton was off to a fast start at yesterday’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, as the first hour of racing featured lots of attacking and chasing. The high pace in the main group never allowed a big gap to the constantly changing leading groups.
Our team was well represented in those moves, with Julius van den Berg bridging to a dangerous 10-man group. As soon as they were chased down, Gabriel Cullaigh followed another big move and remained upfront for a while.
With 40 km to go, there was a split in one of the cobbled sections and a group of 20 riders made it to the front one, including De Vries and Van den Berg. Plenty of attacking followed that move and within the last lap Julius went away in a reduced group that was going to fight for the win. His chances of obtaining a good result slipped away after a crash close to the Paddestraat. Luck wasn't on the side of De Vries either, as he was also knocked out in the final end of the course.
We hope for better luck tomorrow at Koga Slag om Norg. Gravel roads and hard racing will be in the menu for sure!
