Yesterday’s stage 2 at Olympia’s Tour was a great one for us. After a really solid opening in which Jordi Meeus took third and our Belgian trainee, Stan van Tricht, was fifth in the steep cobbles finish of the Col du VAM, we were ready to fight again for the win. A really hectic start saw many attacks take place in the first part of the stage, and some strong wind caused the bunch to split.

Despite the numerous moves and chases that happened, it as eventually a group of 14 riders the one that ended up the road getting a maximum gap of one minute to the chasing group. Sven Burger and Stan van Tricht represented the Academy flag in that move and the good cooperation among the riders made it the eventual winning one. The impressive amount of work done by Burger put van Tricht in position to contest the stage win and therefore move up to the top of the general classification.

The young Belgian did not disappoint, grabbed the opportunity with both hands and was the fastest of a reduced 5-man sprint, which powers him in yellow ahead of the second-to-last stage of the race. Van Tricht also leads the point classification as well as the Best Young Rider’s and holds a 13-second gap onto the second-placed rider on GC.
