A total of five Academy riders will start in tomorrow’s U23 World Championships Road Race in Yorkshire. From Doncaster to Harrogate, the race will be 187 km long and after a first half of the race which will be predominantly flat, the riders will find themselves into a second part filled with short steep climbs all the way to the line. Ide Schelling and Daan Hoole will be wearing KNWU’s orange colors, Kaden Groves will be representing Australia, Barnabás Peák will ride for Hungary and the U23 European Road Race Champion Alberto Dainese for Italy. “The guys that rode the time trial two days ago (Barnabás Peák and Daan Hoole), followed a specific training plan for that event which was based around hard sessions on the TT bike. However, with the other three riders, we focussed on a different approach and they rode a set of different of high-level one-day races in the Netherlands and Belgium, which gave them that needed speed and endurance to face a tough race like this one” highlights Performance Manager Vasilis Anastopoulos. The final part of the race will preview an entertaining finale as either the sprinters, punchers, and late-attackers can contest the for the rainbow jersey. “The preparation has been on point, and we saw it with Daan (Hoole) in the time trial that despite a long season these guys are still able to dig deep and produce a high-level performance. They are really motivated and hungry for one more win this year!” points out our Greek performance expert. From the Academy, we also want to wish all the best to our trainee and 2020 rider, Stan van Tricht, who will also start in the race as part of the Belgian 6-man squad.
