Milan Paulus joined the Academy last year as a first-year U23 and he is now enjoying his second season developing in our structure. The 19-year old is progressing through the ranks with higher and bigger goals each time around. We sat down with him to analyze the first part of the season.

How do you look at the first part of the season?
I think I can say that I had a lot of bad luck in the past months. I crashed in Samyn and later at GP Vermarc. Because of another guy who couldn’t break on time before a corner and who rode full into me. Then I rode the Ronde van Limburg, a home race where I really felt perfect and in shape but also there I couldn’t reward it with a nice result for myself because of my own fault. Then I went to the Orlen Nations Grand Prix and the Course de la Paix to race with the national team, with the latter being my first main goal of the season. But just the week before I crashed in Poland with a big injury on my knee. Because of that crash, I needed to stop in Course de la Paix after 2 of the 4 days with a lot of pain. Now after 1 Month of almost no training and rest for the knee I started training again. Yesterday I just did my first training again without any pain.

What would your goals in the second half of it?
The main goal for the second half of the season is to stay on the bike for sure. I want to show that I made progression and I want that I can show that with results. I felt already in some races like Ruddervoorde that I really can ride the whole day in the front and also be there in the final and I want to make that a usual thing.

What parts of your skillset do you think that you have been developing during the season?
At the moment the season was just all about coming back after crashes but I felt in some races already that I really can race in the front and trying to be in the final to get a nice result and helping the team to take the best result possible.
