Scotland’s Sean Flynn has been one of our additions during the winter break. The young and multi-talented rider will start his first season as a part of the Academy and will be looking forward to enhancing his development on the road as well as in MTB. We sat down with him for a quick Q&A about his goals and ambitions for 2021.

What do you expect of the coming year at the Academy?

I’m expecting to learn a lot and gain a lot more experience of racing on the road at a high level and I’m in the perfect place for that in the Academy.  I’m hoping that these new experiences will allow me to develop as a rider and reach a higher level on the MTB too.  I’m looking forward to the challenge!

What will your main goals be in 2021?

My first goals of the season will come in the spring in the ‘classics’ style races of Northern Europe where I am looking to show myself as a top level rider on the road in the races that suit my characteristics coming from an MTB background.  I can’t wait to race alongside my SEG teammates in these races and hopefully we will get some good results!  After this early season block of road racing my focus will shift back towards the MTB a bit more as I target the World Cup races in the summer – hopefully I will carry good form from the early season road races and be able to take a step forward in my MTB career also.  During this period I will also be taking part in some road stage races with the team which I really look forward to.  I am also not counting out the small chance that I could get the opportunity to represent GB at the Olympic Games in MTB, the chance is quite small but if things fall in my favour I would definitely grab it with both hands!  The goals for the end of the season would be both the MTB and road worlds which are both on courses which suit me.

What do you want to improve most in 2021?

In 2021 I’m really looking to improve my knowledge and skills in road racing as well as my general strength, fitness, and speed to allow me to take a step up in my cycling career.  So basically I am just looking to make myself a better cyclist than I was last year and SEG Racing Academy gives me the perfect platform to do this.
