Our racing action in Italy started today with 1.2U’s Coppa della Pace. Which featured a local circuit that the riders had to tackle several times. Our talents arrived at the start line ready to keep the positive streak going. The race was off to a fast start with 6 riders going up the road, but when the peloton hit the local circuit the pace was picked up.
The bunch broke into several pieces, with a group of 12 going up the road. Daan Hoole and Stan van Tricht were the ones representing our flag upfront. The split was possible thanks to the strong pace that Harrison Wood, Marco Frigo and Sean Flynn set up in the front of the peloton. However, once the leading group went away, the advantage on numbers was not ours as Jumbo Visma Development had a total of 5 riders in that move. The leading bunch worked well together and brought the gap nearby the one-minute mark. As the last lap started, Stan van Tricht made a move to go solo but it was brought back a handful of kilometers later.
Coming to the final, Daan Hoole launched a perfectly-timed attack that allowed him to cross the finish line with some meters over the chasers, while Stan van Tricht won the sprint of said group and leading the way for an incredible 1-2.
Next up, the Giro d’Italia U23 that kicks off on Thursday.
Dries Hollanders, Academy DS for the race:
“The definition of today’s performance is none other than teamwork. We are extremely happy with the final and we must be super proud of the team’s performance overall. The guys executed everything at perfection and we got the biggest reward out of it. Despite Daan (Hoole) and Stan (van Tricht) being on the podium, the merit also goes to the rest of the team for the super effort”.
