The Circuit Wallonie marked our return to the racing scene after a successful stint in Greek soil at the Tour of Rhodes. The 195 km long parcour with start and finish in Charleroi, presented different possibilities to our seven talents that started in the race. They were off for a fast start with an initial breakaway of 4 riders, but the constant high-speed of the bunch did not allow them a big enough margin, and were caught with more than 100 km left. The initial part of the race was a tough one for our Kyle Chromy, who was racing in Academy colors for the first time, as he crashed but got back to the bunch quickly.
The last 80 km of the race were a succession of moves that tried to open a gap to the peloton, but the one that eventually stuck was a 3-man attack that did not get more than a minute. Our riders moved up to the first positions of the bunch as the key part of the race approached. Despite not joining any of the lang-range attacks, they stayed well-organized and worked together. The peloton caught up to the breakaway at the beginning of the final local lap, and after that our riders set up Stan van Tricht perfectly coming into the final bunch sprint. The young Belgian scored a hard-fought seventh place, which accounts for his fourth Top 10 of the season in just 8 racing days.
Pim Ligthart, DS for the race:
“I’m very pleased with the performance of the guys. They executed our plans really well and read the race perfectly at all times. In the last 80 km, we were present in the front and always with an eye on every move that took place. They worked really well together in the final part to put Stan (van Tricht) in the best position possible, and we have to be very happy with the final seventh place. I think that a performance like today’s, makes us very optimistic for the coming goals”.
We will be back to racing action on Saturday, as we will be at the start line of the GP Vermarc
