SEG Racing Academy to join Fixed Gear criteriums
We are really excited to announce that the Academy will compete in some NL Series Criteriums with the goal of participating in Red Hook Milano at the end of the year. The uniqueness and atmosphere of these events have been something that always attracted the Academy and to our rider, Ide Schelling. Even though that his ambitions lie on road cycling and the possibility of becoming pro one day, the 20-year old will combine both disciplines with the goal of improving physically at the same time that he becomes a more skilled rider. “I’ve been riding a fixed gear bike to school since I was 14 and I fell in love with it. When I joined the Academy I turned my old TT bike into a racing fixed gear bike. I did an NL Crit race last year and liked it so much that I wanted to do more. At the beginning of the year, we talked with the Academy management about racing some Crits in the Academy colors, and that is what we will do!” points out Schelling.

Our 20-year old Dutchman, who powered to fourth in Liège-Bastogne-Liège U23 in April, will race some of Criteriums when his road race program allows him to do so. “I don’t want to set any goals for this, it is an exciting step for me and the team and I want to enjoy it and try to learn as much as possible from this discipline. I would like to get into the finals of the Red Hook Crit in Italy later this year, but in order to go there I need to do well in the NL Crit series”.

When it comes to materials and components, Schelling will take advantage of the shared work of our partners. “I will be riding a Koga frame with Pro and Shimano components, like for example the 165 mm Shimano Olympic Zen cranks, and Schwalbe tires. I am really excited and happy about the set up of the bike and I am really thankful to the partners for supporting this step, and I will be looking to make them proud”.
