Solid Academy performance in our opening weekend
After two training camps in Loutraki and several months of winter training in the legs, it was about time to pin on the numbers for an action-packed weekend of racing in Belgium and The Netherlands. Our opening weekend was off to a great start in which after a hard day and cold day out our Belgian sprinter, Jordi Meeus, took second in Ronde van Groningen. A flat out race which saw the peloton break into pieces several times. The race was won by a solo rider, who held on the chasing group after a late-attack, whilst Meeus out-powered everyone else in the group after a really strong lead-out by Marten Kooistra.

On Sunday it was the turn for our first Belgian race of the year, Brussel-Opwijk, in yet another cold day on the bike. The flat parcour caused several attacks, with big groups going up the road before the peloton reacted. Our riders missed the key move and despite coming together and working hard to bring it back, the race was decided amongst the riders up front. Next to this, our George Stavrakakis, successfully defended the colors of the Greek National Team, and finished 17th in GP Rhodes, despite suffering a crash.
