The second SEG eRacing U19 and U23 Stage race kicked off yesterday on RGT Cycling. The opening stage was ridden in the flat and fast Borrego Springs Criterium circuit, that featured a total of 38,5 km. This parcour had been ridden three different times in previous SEG eRacing Series, with Academy’s David Dekker and Jordi Meeus (twice) taking home the win in a bunch sprint.

The race was off to a fast start with a couple of attempts of making it up the road and the first move that really stuck, was a two-man attack with Maikel Zijlaard in it. Some kilometers later, that move was joined by two other riders, featuring two-time race winner Jordi Meeus. The group of four worked together and enlarged the advantage up to a point in which it was clear that they would play for the win. Then Jordi Meeus launched a winning attack that allowed him to take his third straight win in the Borrego Springs Circuit, while, teammate Maikel Zijlaard crossed the line 26 seconds behind, and Thomas Mijnsbergen lost 33 seconds to the winner but classified as the first U19 rider. The Belgian rider now leads the overall classification coming into tonight’s stage in Pienza!
