Stevie Willams takes second at Flèche Ardennaise
07/05/2017
The race featured a hectic start as many attacks were done in the first kilometers of the race. A dangerous move with 15 riders, including Julius van den Berg, led the peloton to pick the speed up and stayed together until the riders hit the slopes of the Côte the Vecquée. Several attacks went by but it wasn’t until the race arrived to the foot of the Côte de Cornesse, that the eventual winning move was made.
Stevie Williams jumped off the main group and brought to his wheel three other riders with 35 km and one other climb remaining. Jan Maas showed his climbing power as well, and alongside five other riders bridged to the leading group as they entered to the local circuit.
During the two local laps in Herve there were some attacks in the leading group and a leading trio, including Stevie, got to the final kilometer in front. In the last hard ramp Williams showed, once again today, his climbing skills and powered to second with teammate Maas rolling in seventh.
It was a brave effort by the whole team today, congratulations to everyone!
