Sven Burger to ride in Academy colors in 2019
We are happy to announce that the talented 21-year old Dutchman, Sven Burger, will join the Academy for the upcoming 2019 season. “I am really honored and excited to become part of the Academy. It was a special season for me as I moved from my former team, Wielerploeg Groot – Amsterdam to Tirol Cycling Team in June, so finishing off the year with such good news it makes it even more special” highlights the Dutch rider who had a late start in road racing as he began in the MTB discipline.

When the opportunity came, it was a no-brainer for Burger, who had a strong season debut as he took a stage in the Carpathian Race along the third place overall and the points jersey, to join the team as the professionalism and the continued success makes it the best environment for a rider of his condition. “I have always seen the Academy as one of the best development teams. The acknowledge and the professionalism of the team, together with the strong and talented riders and staff were key for me when taking the decision. I truly believe that there is no better place to keep on developing and improving so I will do everything to let the team and myself succeed”.

Burger, has a clear image of the rider that he wants to become and finds the Academy’s environment the right place to keep on moving forward. His late start in road racing opens room for improvement in all sides of cycling and he has strong ambitions to improve while in the Academy, especially on time trials where he has already shown a good level, sixth at the U23 Dutch TT Nationals, despite the short education in the discipline. “I want to learn and improve on all aspects, on and off the bike. The ultimate goal it is to turn professional of course, but I want to reach a high level in time trialing as well as in one-day hilly races. I do believe that with all the help that the Academy offers to their riders it will be good to empower my strengths”.
